We want you to feel comfortable and have fun in our classes! We put together a few tips that might help you know what to expect:
- Class begins in our ‘Cocoon’ at the designated start time. Students are welcome to arrive 10 – 15 minutes before the start of class to set their mats up at a station. We encourage play and use of the hammocks while preparing for class, however we ask that no one invert or hang from the station until/unless cleared by the teacher
- Class ends in a relaxation pose or Savasana. Many students enjoy these minutes the most as it is the perfect time to clear the mind and receive the benefits of the work. The instructor(s) may give mini shoulder and neck massages during this relaxations – if you would prefer to have your own space (i.e. not be touched) just let your instructor know prior to class.
- Any athletic attire is acceptable; tighter clothing makes transitions easier and some are more comfortable covering their knees with leggings or tights, some prefer to where short sleeved shirts to have the shoulder and underarm area covered as well. The silks are washed once a month, but we ask that you help us keep the stations smelling of roses by being aware of pre-class hygeine (please where deodorant
)
- Breaks are great; if you need to use the restroom, want to come to your mat for childs pose or just want to watch for a while feel free. We do not stop for water breaks so you are welcome to take your own.
- Being upsidedown is an exhilarating experience; but there are some times (particularly in a woman’s cycle or if during a high cholesterol diet) that the movement is not comfortable. If there is any time that you feel light headed or have a tin taste in your mouth simply come back to upright and the insructor will show you some variations to the posture/exercise.
- New movement wakes up dormant muscles; the body and skin will feel brand new innitially, with muscles and skin receptors you didn’t know you used – this is an amazing way to strengthen the body from the inside out. You can help support this progress by drinking plenty of water, concious post work out eating (protien is great) and potassium/calcium (love bananas!) the next day.
- We have a camera at class; being able to see our accomplishment in action is a great part of class so we take pictures through out and once or twice a month load them onto the site. If you prefer not to have your picture online they can be emailed as well, or you can let the instructor know not to picture you at all. We encourage pictures after class if there is anything you want to see yourself do, we can take them with our camera and yours… and we love to see your pictures on facebook please ad them to our group: Aerial Yoga Memphis!
